The Highway

about

A part of a series of guitar-based tracks, The Highway was written as a part of the process of healing from grief of losing loved ones. Every line is performed in a single take organically and no postproduction edits were made to these performances other than EQ, reverbs and compression. The goal was to create vulnerable and natural performances in the Dream Pop genre were that kind of thing is not normally a part of the process. These recordings were done in a messy bedroom with relatively cheap gear and no sound proofing. Everything was performed, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Adam Diener between bouts of spazzy creativity and crippling depression. The goal is to inspire you to feel something and to hopefully feel motivated to create and express your feelings and creativity. Hopefully music like this will bring you some healing and inspiration:)

lyrics

Plans we make
Routes that we take
This is the sound
of tires on the ground
spinning around as we're barreling down on the Highway
Keep up the pace
Primed for the race
Step on the gas
Diving so fast
Hoping to pass all the troubles that crashed on the highway

Cars will crash on the road below
They will tumble helplessly home alone

Took that chance
We danced the dance
Put it in drive
Felt so alive
Things would take shape as we made our escape on the highway
Bit by bit
Cars start to quit
Feels like the gods
In love with the odds
Gambled their checks in the form of the wrecks on the highway

Cars will crash on the road below
They will tumble helplessly home alone

Sometimes we can't find our way
If we disappear, we can get stuck in this fear
Headlights turn from bright to grey
There are shadows around that don't want to be found
When those ghosts take off their sheets
they have nothing to hide they just take it in stride so then
Why don't they just drive these streets
They could push through the dust and the smoke and the rust

Listen darling we've got time
We don't have to go fast if we want this to last I will
Take your hand so please take mine
I want you by my side on this long bumpy ride cuz these
highways have their wear and tear
It's a part of the flow and a risk we all know but then
Sometimes we get safe............ly..............there
